Three layouts, and when to use each

Side by side

Before-and-after shots, product comparisons, two versions of a design. Every image is scaled to the same height, so a portrait next to a landscape keeps its shape — the landscape simply ends up wider.

Stacked

Long conversations, receipts or web pages captured as several screenshots. Every image is scaled to the same width and joined top to bottom, so text lines stay the same size all the way down. Crop the overlapping part off each screenshot first with the image cropper for a seamless result.

Grid

Contact sheets, product catalogues, mood boards. Every cell is the same size and each picture is fitted inside its cell without cropping; the background colour shows in any leftover space.

Getting a sharp result

• Match to the smallest (the default) means no image is enlarged, so nothing turns soft.
• Use PNG for screenshots with text; JPG for photos (smaller files).
• Merging many large photos can exceed what a browser can draw in one image; the tool scales the result down to stay within about 16 million pixels.
